Shotokan Karate
Shotokan Karate is a Japanese style of martial arts that originated
in Okinawa.  It is considered a hard style form - meaning
techniques are done with power and intensity. However, Shotokan
offers very flowing and efficient techniques.  This style is good for
students who feel they cannot do a lot of fancy techniques or high
kicks.

The meaning of Shotokan Karate Do:  The founder Gichin
Funakoshi’s pen name Shoto which means waving pines (as in
trees) and kan which is hall. Karate (or Kara-Te) which means
empty hand and Do which means way. So the full translation is
“Shoto’s hall of the way of the empty hand”.
